In May of 2013 I was diagnosed with Endometriosis. The Endometriosis was determined after a laparoscopy procedure completed by my gynecologist. It took me by surprise, because I had never considered that Endometriosis could be an answer to the various issues I was having. Once I was educated about its symptoms, though, it made sense. I had always blamed my digestive system, “my bad stomach,” for the problems I had been dealing with over the years and now I was finding out a lot more was going on inside my body than I realized.
I began researching for a new approach to my diet and lifestyle. I was hunting for ways to heal my body from the inside out and stumbled onto several blogs that really inspired me. I gained (and continue to gain) so much insight about myself just by reading other blogs and learning about various tactics people took to help aid in their struggle with ailments and food interactions. I wanted to learn from other people and their personal health journeys so that I might could figure out what my personal relationship was with food. Through my research, I found out what foods I could eliminate to naturally decrease my symptoms and pain (Endometriosis Nutrition). I now follow eating guidelines most similar to the Paleo Diet and the lifestyle outlined in The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson.
It’s amazing to me how I can take something as simple as food, and supplements, and use those components to turn my body into a powerhouse of health…instead of letting it break me down into a fragile existence. It’s hard for me to understand now how the power of food keeps being ignored, and how we are taught to dismiss its connection to everything. Nutrition is the basis of everything. It is our foundation. We have to re-wire our brains and constantly ask ourselves: “What am I putting in my body, and how does it make me feel?” Click the link to read a more detailed version of My Health Journey.
